Easter Basket Ideas for Big Kids

The kids in the Bitsas house are older now, preteen and teens. We are throwing out all the plastic and monogrammed easter baskets and moving on to something fun but a little more practical. Maybe it’s revealing my age to say that filling various holiday containers with copious amounts of sugar and plastic garbage toys is more work for me than fun for them. These ideas are not costing me a fortune and I know the kids will love it

So, here’s what we’re doing:

Ezra’s basket containing a new beach towel, flip flops, goggles, a golden Jimminy Cricket, candy, and goldfish. The consumables will be gone within the week and the others have a purpose and a place. Everyone WINS.

Plastic pastel baskets are worthless. They sit in the basement 364 days a year. Instead, find something useful that is itself a gift.

  • Small Target rope or wire basket

  • Sand buckets

  • Picnic basket

  • New lunch bag

  • Caboodle

Add favorite snacks or the ones you never let them have:

  • Giant bags of Goldfish

  • Pop tarts

  • Pringles

  • Ramen

  • Taki’s

  • Dorito’s

  • Fruit Loops

Combine seasonal purchases by adding new summer wear

  • Flip flops

  • Goggles

  • Sunglasses

  • Sun protecting lip balm

  • Beach towel

  • Water toys

  • Bubbles

I love to add something personal, cute, or cuddly to show I was thinking about him specifically. Don’t forget few plastic eggs with jelly beans are still a great idea.

Lastly, forget Easter grass. It’s garbage. Use gift tissue paper instead since you probably already have it.

Whatever you come to face on April 17, I hope it sparks life and adventure in you.

You still have a week to shop and assemble, but maybe you are a planner and have finished. The rest of us are both inspired and frustrated by your adulting skills.
